Let’s cycle through traditional backstreets and an amazing zen citadel on the way to the North-Western part of Kyoto, visit the most peaceful and rural side of Arashiyama and the beautiful village of Saga-Toriimoto before diving into Arashiyama’s main attractions. The perfect combination of cycling and walking, this is going to be a memorable trip.
The tour generally starts at 9am, however departure time might vary slightly depending on the season, and on events in the area.

How fit do I need to be?

The tour isn’t particularly challenging, there are only a couple of very short and easy climbs but it still covers a good distance and a couple it requires a reasonably good level of fitness. Remember that Kyoto’s summer is extremely hot and humid.

I'm fit but I don't have much cycling experience, can I still join?

Of course, however familiarity with using a bicycle with gears is an advantage.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothes appropriate for the season and shoes suitable for exercising. Jeans are NOT recommended.
Bring also sunglasses or some eye protection and a hat.

Do you ride on busy roads?

The tour follows minor back roads in the city and small countryside roads outside the city.

Do you ride if it rains?

The tour is cancelled if the previous day the weather forecast gives a chance of rain over 50%. You will be notified by 8pm the evening previous to your departure. In the event of sudden morning rain, please get in touch by email or call us and we will discuss together the best course of action.
