Central Kyoto – The water tour

Traditional streets, quietly flowing streams, beautiful temples and gardens. A pleasant half-day tour filled with history, nature and more in the less crowded part of Eastern Kyoto. Some of the most impressive sights the city has to offer are packed in this short and easy ride.
The tour leaves from Keihan Sanjo, conveniently located in the heart of Kyoto, and mostly ride on bike lanes or less trafficked side roads avoiding crowds and traffic as much as possible.
NOTE’ the route changes slightly depending on the time of the day.

How long is this tour?

It’ about 10 km long.

How fit do I need to be?

The tour is very easy, slowly paced and mostly flat. Just beware of the heat and humidity in summer.

How many hours does it take?

It takes between 3 and 4 hours depending on the pace of participants, weather conditions, photo breaks etc.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes appropriate for the season. Hat and sunglasses are highly recommended in summer.

Do you ride on busy roads?

We mostly ride on bike lanes and small side streets with limited or no traffic.

What bikes do you use?

We use 21-speed ‘Trek’ fitness bikes, the minimum height is 145 cm.
We can also provide kids bikes or lady bikes with seats for young children (up to 5 years old) and electric bikes (plus 2000 yen), please let me know in advance.
Fitness bikes come with a bottle holder and have a small bag to keep your wallet and phone. Please bring a small rucksack or waist bag to keep you other possessions . Some small rucksacks can be provided on request. Lady bikes always come with a basket.

Should I make a reservation?

Yes, a reservation is required. It’s highly recommended to book well in advance in high season (spring and autumn).

What if I need to cancel the tour?

Please get in touch as soon as possible if you need to cancel. A full refund will be given for cancellations we receive at least 24 hours in advance. Refunds won’t be available for cancellations with less than 24 hours notice and for no shows.

Do you cycle/hike if it rains?

The tour will be cancelled only in case of really inclement weather. In case of light and not persistent rain the tour goes ahead, make sure you wear the appropriate gear.
