Miyama is a beautiful and remote rural area some 40 kilometers in the North East of Kyoto. The thatched roof farmhouses of the small hamlet of Kayabuki no Sato are the major attraction of the area. The views are breathtaking all-year-round as the houses, set at the foot of the mountains, create a nostalgic atmosphere and give the visitors a chance to experience a more traditional and rural side of Japan. It feels indeed like traveling back in time as the farmhouses are still residential dwellings where the locals live and work.
