Kurama is a sleepy mountain village in the North of Kyoto known for its natural beauty and for being a very powerful spiritual spot. It’s believed to be the birthplace of “reiki”. The main attractions are the esoteric Kurama temple located on the mountainside of Mt. Kurama roughly half-way through the hiking trail that leads to the village of Kibune; Yuki shrine, famous for its Fire Festival held in October and for its impressive 800 hundred years old cedar trees standing well over 50 meters; Kurama Onsen with its indoor and outdoor baths, arguably the most popular hot spring in Kyoto.
