Takao to Arashiyama hike

A beautiful and easy hike from the charming village of Takao to the world famous Arashiyama area.

We’ll leave central Kyoto by public bus and reach Takao where we’ll visit the temples of Saimyoji and Jingoji, particularly impressive during the autumn leaf season. We will then start an easy hike following downstream the beautiful Kiyotaki river valley. We’ll go through the incredibly quaint village of Saga-Toorimoto lined by traditional townhouses and home of the unique Otagi Nenbutsuji temple whose grounds are covered in hundreds of stone statues. We’ll continue to Arashiyama where we will visit Daikakuji temple’s beautiful pond and a ‘secret’ bamboo grove.

Time permitting we’ll have the option of visiting one more of Arashiyama’s impressive temples and gardens and also the bamboo forest. We’ll then catch the train for a short ride back to central Kyoto.
